Resumo
The neocortex is the organ responsible for mammalian intelligence. Cortical Circuitry provides a readable account of how the neocortex works. It explains how individual neurons work and presents a theory about how the structure of the neocortex enables its many functions. This book covers the following subjects: what does the cortex do, how does a single neuron work, what do the different cortical layers do, and what can we learn from the cortex to build better AI. However, it does not use such field jargon for these concepts as dendritic computation in pyramidal cells, functional significance of the laminar structure of the neocortex, and biologically-inspired neural networks. This book is meant to be readable by anybody interested in the neocortex, no matter their level of prior knowledge about it.
