Resumo
Brain diseases including depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and Alzheimer’s (AD), Parkinson’s (PD), and Huntington’s diseases (HD) are some of the most common mental disorders worldwide. The total healthcare burden associated with these diseases runs into several hundreds of billions of dollars worldwide. Diet quality plays an important role in the prevention and treatment of several physical diseases. However, its role in mental health is far less clear. Experts in the healthcare industry have found a correlation between dietary exposure and the management of neurologic conditions such as epilepsy, dementia, and stroke. Several well-studied diet plans have been associated with a positive effect on the brain. Experts testify to the accumulating evidence from large longitudinal studies and randomized trials supporting the role of diet in brain health. However, studies that also correlate the effects of dietary exposure in conjunction with diseases, neurologic and otherwise, as well as lifestyle, environment, physiological characteristics such as age, sex, and body mass, and genes, are needed. Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and other neurodegenerative diseases develop over several years, and therefore, early and prolonged dietary interventions are the need of the hour.In this eBook, we review the latest evidence for several foods or nutritional ingredients as well as diets recommended for specific conditions. The following diets vis-à-vis different neurological conditions are reviewed:1.Mediterranean Diet (MeDi)2.Nordic Diet3.Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH)4.Mediterranean-DASH Intermediate for Neurodegenerative Delay(MIND) Diet 5.Ketogenic Diet6.Feingold Diet7.Intermittent Fasting Diet The work is appropriately referenced in the running text. It is also furnished with illustrations and links to expert videos.
